Subrahmanyam Jaishankar or S Jaishankar (born 9 January 1955) is an Indian diplomat who has been Foreign Secretary of India since January 2015.〔〔 He joined Indian Foreign Service in 1977. He had previously served as Indian Ambassador to the United States (2013–2015), China (2009–2013) and the Czech Republic (2001–04), and as High Commissioner to Singapore (2007–09). Jaishankar also played a key role in negotiating the Indo-US civilian nuclear agreement. ==Early life and background== Jaishankar was born on 9 January 1955 in New Delhi, India to prominent Indian strategic affairs analyst, commentator, and civil servant K.
